The band goes on its second US Tour, visiting Long Beach, San Jose, Vallejo, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago & New York 2001 Bassist Nathan Azarcon leaves the band. Remaining members Mark Escueta & Rico Blanco begin discreetly searching for new members, scouting rock clubs all over Metro Manila. Auditions disguised as simple jam sessions are held at Mark's house and finally three musicians are invitied to join the band, namely Mike Elgar (guitar), Kakoi Legaspi (guitar) & Japs Sergio (bass). Rivermaya signs with Viva Records and the album "Tuloy Ang Ligaya" is released. 2000 Rivermaya goes 'indie' and shocks the music industry by giving away their music for free over the internet and at their gigs. The album, aptly entitled "Free", wins the Album of the Year award at the prestigious NU Rock Awards. 1998 The band goes in its first US Tour. Frontman Bamboo decides to leave the band to pursue his studies and return to his family in the United States. Rico Blanco assumes the vocal duties. Rivermaya, now down to a trio, releases the album "It's Not Easy Being Green". 1995-1997 Guitar Player Perfecto de Castro leaves the band due to artistic and musical differences. Rico Blanco switches from keyboard to guitar duties. The band released the several albums including: Trip, Atomic Bomb, Rivermaya Remixed. 1994 Rivermaya is born. The band members are Bamboo Mañalac, Nathan Azarcon, Rico Blanco, Perfecto de Castro and Mark Escueta. The name 'Rivermaya' was chosen out of a long list of names suggested & compiled by the band members themselves. This was right before they took the stage for their first gig where they were fronting for the would-be legendary - Eraserheads. Out of so many options, Rivermaya was the only name that Bamboo, Nathan, Rico, Perf & Mark collectively agreed upon. In November of this year, the band released their self-titled debut album.
