DUBAI: Rock guitarist Led Zeppelin Tuyay of the Philippine group Kamikazee, due to give a concert in Dubai, began his New Year in detention accused of drug possession, The National newspaper reported on Friday.
Tuyay was arrested on December 4 shortly after his arrival in Dubai and is being held at an airport detention center. The guitarist has not been formally charged, according to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) newspaper, which said the prosecutor was awaiting results of urine tests. The newspaper said Tuyay was found with 0.87 grams (0.03 ounces) of marijuana in his possession that he insisted he had not intended to bring with him or to use in Dubai. Dubai, one of the seven members of the UAE federation, is a major tourist center but has strict laws over drugs: drug possession attracts at least four years in prison while trafficking can result in the death penalty.
